Whether it’s on stage in an arena, in the corner of a dive bar, or on a porch in Alabama, when Brandon Whyde opens his mouth, he reaches the listener beyond just their ears. He gets to the soul and the viscera of the matter. He’s there to make a connection. Whyde says, “I don’t get on stage because I need attention. That’s never been my thing. I want to be able to share something with people because they want it or need it, or it makes them feel good. It’s because they’re seeking it out, not because I’m advertising like, ‘please come look at this.’ You don’t have to look at it, but if it makes you feel good, I want you to be there. I want to share in that experience with you.”
He is a songwriter and performing artist born and raised in the Hoosier State, but has since become an adopted son of the South, calling Muscle Shoals his stomping grounds. He writes with a hint of influence from the likes of Dylan Thomas and William Butler Yeats, but creates a voice that is both distinctly his and reachable to anyone on a human level.
Whyde’s songs give listeners a glimpse into his past -- a past that includes heartbreak, loss, and self-discovery. His voice has been described as soulful, whiskey-soaked, and even “a freight train on fire.”
Whyde has supported Sturgill Simpson, Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, Marc Broussard, Son Volt, The Steeldrivers and Blues Traveler. His most recent full album, Silver Apples of the Moon, produced by 2-time Grammy winner Jimmy Nutt at Nutthouse Studios in Muscle Shoals, includes performances by Spooner Oldham (Aretha Franklin/Percy Sledge), Jimbo Hart (The 400 Unit), Gary Nichols (The Steeldrivers) and Bob Wray (Clarence Carter, B.B. King) and placed on the Americana Radio charts as well as having over 60,000 plays on Spotify.
When he’s not touring, he focuses on songwriting and has co-written songs with Grammy-winning country songwriter Clint Lagerberg, as well as hit songwriters Billy Lawson, James LeBlanc, and Jamie Kenney.
